Group-work (Reflection)

From the beginning I realized that this is not exactly the kind of activity I want to do. I don’t really like working with threads and fabrics.
I liked the first part of the task because we had to visualize the story of the person in a line. I tried to use the silhouettes, and I drew without taking my hand off the page to get a simple illustration that tells us a story.

I can tell you that I like my second drawing, which was based on the weaving that we were doing together one by one. I like the color gamut and variety of lines, their tolcines and composition. I think I can build on this work and make a big picture out of it. I love large formats, and also to combine realism with something more illustrative. So I’d like to use this sketch as a backdrop or as an element of a landscape. I present this illustration as something I'll potentially use in my future works.

As for working in a group, I don’t usually like working with someone, because when a lot of people work on a project and they have completely different ideas, it’s confusing and exhausting. But this time I liked working in the community, because we didn’t have a clear idea of what we were going to get and what we wanted to create. We trusted the process, and it felt like relaxation. I can’t say that I’m very happy with the work we’ve done, I don’t think I can apply it to my art, because weaving and threading is not my thing, but I was still happy to just try something like that.

But I can tell you that I like the color scheme, it’s got almost all the colors in it, but it’s mostly red and blue, I often use such color scheme in my works.

In the process of working on this project , I realized that I’m not against abstract art and that it can be successfully combined with realism and applied in illustration, and that’s what I want to do in the future. I didn’t stop being afraid of abstraction, but I figured out how to do it. Normally, I know in advance what the work will look like, but when things touch the abstract art, it is better to trust the process and just layer the details gradually.

Back home, I tried to develop the weaving theme, and I was inspired by the ornaments and the deep cleavage fashions of the Victorian era. I didn’t enjoy my work, and I rather did it for the results. I thought I might like to work with thread, but I love paint and canvases a lot more.
